For retail networks

Store Mapping Software for Retail Networks

Put your whole estate on one searchable, filterable map — bulk imported, automatically geocoded, and with an indexable page per store. Free for 10 locations.

"Store mapping" means three different things

This is one of the more ambiguous terms in retail software, and landing on the wrong product wastes a lot of time. The three meanings:

  • Mapping where your stores are. A searchable map of the network for customers and internal teams. This is what Maptera does, and it is the most common meaning by a wide margin.
  • Mapping what is inside a store. Planograms, shelf layouts, floor plans and space planning. A completely separate software category. Maptera does none of it.
  • Mapping where stores should go. Site selection, trade-area and catchment analysis, demographic overlays, cannibalisation modelling. Also a separate category, and also not what this is.

If you want the first one, here is what it looks like

You have a spreadsheet of stores. You want them on a map that customers can search by postcode, filter by what each store offers, and get directions from — and you want each store to have a page that can rank locally. That is a store locator, and the rest of this page is about doing it well.

Spreadsheet to live map

The work is not the map. It is getting several hundred rows of inconsistent address data into a state where a search actually returns the right store.

Bulk import and geocode

One CSV for the whole estate. Addresses resolve to coordinates automatically, so nobody looks up latitude and longitude by hand. Dry run the file first with the free CSV geocoder to surface bad rows before they go live.

Categorise for filtering

Tag each store with format, departments, services, or region. Categories become the filters customers use, and they are also how internal teams slice the map. Decide them before the import, not after.

Publish and keep it current

Embed on your site, then re-import on a fixed cadence with individual edits made in the dashboard between imports. A map nobody refreshes is worse than no map, because people trust it.

Tools: CSV geocoder, embed code generator, and the install hub for platform-by-platform steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is store mapping software?

The term is used for two genuinely different products. Most often it means software that plots your store network on a searchable map for customers or internal teams — a store locator. Less often it means in-store space planning: planograms, shelf layouts and floor plans. It is also sometimes used for retail site selection and trade-area analysis. Maptera is the first of the three.

Is store mapping the same as a store locator?

In the most common usage, yes. "Store mapping software", "store locator software" and "store finder software" describe the same category: putting a searchable, filterable map of your locations somewhere people can use it. The vocabulary varies by team and by region rather than by product.

Does Maptera do planograms or floor plans?

No. Maptera maps where your stores are, not what is inside them. It has no shelf layout, no planogram, no floor plan, and no space-planning capability of any kind. If that is what you are looking for, this is the wrong category and you want retail space-planning software instead.

Does Maptera do site selection or trade-area analysis?

No. There is no demographic overlay, no drive-time trade-area modelling, no cannibalisation analysis, and no competitor mapping. Maptera plots the network you have. Deciding where the next store should go is a different discipline with different tools.

Can I map a network internally rather than publicly?

The locator is designed for a public-facing page, and that is what it does best. Internal teams commonly use the same map — operations, field sales and support all benefit from one searchable, filterable view of the estate — but there is no separate private or permissioned internal mode, so treat anything you load as publishable.

How much does store mapping software cost?

Maptera is $0 for up to 10 stores, $9/month for 100, $15/month for 2,000, and $19/month for 5,000 plus REST API access. Space-planning and site-selection software — the other two things sometimes called store mapping — are enterprise-priced and generally quote-gated.
