Maptera vs Locally
These are frequently compared and are not really the same product. One is a two-sided retailer inventory network; the other is a stockist map you fill in yourself. The decision comes down to one question.
The verdict, up front
Choose Maptera
if you want a where-to-buy map of the retailers that carry your product, published on your own site, at a price you can see before talking to anyone. $0 for 10 retailers, $19/month for 5,000 plus a REST API.
Choose Locally
if shoppers genuinely need to see whether a specific product is in stock at a specific store right now. That requires retailer data partnerships, which Locally has and Maptera does not, and it is not something a cheaper tool can substitute for.

The one question that decides this
Does your shopper need to know which shops stock your range, or which shelf has one left?
If it is the first, a stockist locator does the job. You already have the retailer list — it is a spreadsheet your sales or distribution team maintains — and turning it into a filterable map takes an afternoon and costs tens of dollars a month.
If it is the second, you need retailer inventory data, and that is a fundamentally harder product. It requires data relationships with retailers or distributors, per- partner integration, and ongoing operations. Locally reports connecting a network of hundreds of thousands of physical stores, and supports BOPIS, ROPIS and ship-to-store on the back of it. That is genuinely valuable and genuinely expensive, and no thirty-dollar-a-month map substitutes for it.
Maptera will not pretend otherwise. There is no live inventory, no retailer POS integration, and no checkout handoff — the boundary is spelled out on the product locator software page too.
Pricing transparency
Locally's brand-side pricing is entirely quote-gated as of August 2026: three unnamed tiers, all "request a quote". Its retailer-side product does publish a price at $49/month for advanced integration, but that is the other side of the network and not what a brand buys.
Maptera publishes everything: $0 for 10 retailers, $9/month for 100, $15/month for 2,000, and $19/month for 5,000 plus REST API access.
To be fair about why: pricing a retailer-data network per customer is defensible, because what it costs genuinely depends on your category and which partners already carry your data. It does mean you cannot budget without a call. Which vendors do and do not publish is covered in store locator software with published pricing.
Where Locally is genuinely better
- Real, verified store-level inventory from a large retailer network — the thing Maptera does not do at all.
- BOPIS, ROPIS, ship-to-store and same-day fulfilment paths.
- A two-sided network, so retailer participation keeps the data fresh without the brand chasing it.
- Depth in categories where a shopper is deciding which shop to drive to right now.
Where Maptera is genuinely better
- A published price you can approve without a sales cycle, and a free plan to test on.
- Live the same day from a spreadsheet, with automatic geocoding — no onboarding project.
- Native Shopify and Wix apps, plus a universal embed anywhere else.
- An auto-generated indexable page per retailer, which is a local-SEO asset a plain inventory widget does not give you.
- No dependency on retailer participation: your list is your list, whether or not those retailers have joined anyone's network.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Maptera a Locally alternative?
Only for the where-to-buy map. If you are using Locally for its retailer inventory data, BOPIS, or ship-to-store, Maptera does not replace any of it. If you are using it as a stockist locator on your own site, Maptera does that on published pricing from $9/month.
How much does Locally cost?
Locally does not publish brand pricing. Its three brand tiers are all listed as "request a quote" as of August 2026. The retailer-side advanced integration product is published at $49/month, but that is what a retailer pays to compete for placement, not what a brand pays for the platform.
Does Maptera show live stock at retailers?
No. Maptera maps retailers and lets shoppers filter by the product lines each one carries, based on data you maintain. It has no connection to retailer point-of-sale systems and cannot report whether a specific item is in stock.
Can I run both?
It is uncommon, because they overlap on the visible surface. Where it makes sense is a brand that uses an inventory platform in its major markets and a cheap stockist map for smaller markets or specialist ranges where retailer data coverage is thin.
How do I move a stockist list into Maptera?
Export the retailer list to CSV, import it, and let the geocoder resolve addresses to coordinates. Tag each retailer with the ranges it carries so shoppers can filter, then embed the locator on your brand site. Most brands are live the same day.
