Connect locator events to GTM and GA4

Forward searches, dealer selections, and outbound clicks from Maptera into Google Tag Manager.

Last updated August 21, 2026

Generated Maptera embeds and the Shopify theme block forward verified locator events into the parent storefront dataLayer. Your GTM administrator maps those events to GA4.

Events

  • maptera_locator_view
  • maptera_search
  • maptera_dealer_select
  • maptera_website_click
  • maptera_directions_click
  • maptera_phone_click

Configure GTM

  1. 1
    Create Data Layer Variables
Create variables for the maptera_* search, result, dealer, rank, and distance fields you need.
  2. 2
    Create Custom Event triggers
Create one trigger for each of the six event names.
  3. 3
    Create GA4 Event tags
Use the same event names and map your Data Layer Variables as event parameters.
  4. 4
    Preview every interaction
Search, select a dealer, and click website, directions, and phone. Confirm every event fires exactly once.
  5. 5
    Publish and verify
Publish the GTM container and confirm the events in GA4 DebugView.
The companion bridge script in the generated embed is required. A bare iframe cannot write to the storefront dataLayer.
